This performance assessment is designed to:

1. allow students to utilize their knowledge of potential and kinetic energy, energy conversions, and endothermic and exothermic reactions as they design experiments to demonstrate conversions from sound energy to mechanical energy, and chemical energy to heat energy.

2. encourage students to apply their knowledge of potential and kinetic energy, forms of energy, and endothermic and exothermic reactions as they design and test their experiments.

3. promote problem-solving skills by encouraging students to find appropriate solutions to problems.

4. assess students’ understanding of energy transformation and the reasons for energy transformation.

5. assess students’ understanding of the Law of Conservation of Energy.

6. assess students’ understanding of endothermic and exothermic reactions.
