Performance Assessment

PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT FOCUS

Within the CELL, this Performance Assessment is designed to:

  • promote problem-solving skills by encouraging students to find appropriate solutions to problems.
  • encourage planning and reasoning as students work together to create a model of the lighting in a four-room house.
  • assess students’ understanding of simple and parallel circuits.
  • assess students’ ability to combine circuits.

PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT RUBRIC

Third grade is the first year in the LabLearner curriculum in which Performance Assessments are provided. In third grade, the intent is to acclimate students to the Performance Assessment format. During this transitional year of Performance Assessment introduction and practice, we do not recommend the grading of student work. Therefore, there is no Performance Assessment Rubric for Exploring Electricity.

Nonetheless, after the Performance Assessment is completed, the teacher should review student results and Student Data Records entries for the Performance Assessment as a class.
