Performance Assessment

PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT FOCUS

Within the CELL, this Performance Assessment is designed to:

 

  • offer students an opportunity to demonstrate understanding that the history of species can be reflected in the fossil record.
  • give students an opportunity to demonstrate an understanding of the significance of extinction.
  • provide an opportunity for students to sequence natural history events by examining a fossil record.
  • require students to apply knowledge and skills gained during the Core Experience Learning Lab.

PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT RUBRIC

Third grade is the first year in the LabLearner curriculum in which Performance Assessments are provided. In third grade, the intent is to acclimate students to the Performance Assessment format. During this transitional year of Performance Assessment introduction and practice, we do not recommend the grading of student work. Therefore, there is no Performance Assessment Rubric for Exploring Ecosystems.

Nonetheless, after the Performance Assessment is completed, the teacher should review student results and Student Data Records entries for the Performance Assessment as a class.
