Group materials

  • 3 400 ml beakers containing approximately 300 ml water each
  • Food color (yellow, blue, and red)
  • 1 stir rod
  • Rectangular mirror
  • Sheet of paper
  • Pen or pencil

TEACHER PREPARATION

1. Place group materials at the distribution center.

 

INSTRUCTION

1. Instruct each student group to obtain the following necessary materials from the distribution point: three (3) 400 ml beakers, (3) three drops of food color (yellow, blue, and red) into each 400 ml beaker containing 300 ml water, one (1) stir rod to mix the food color in the beakers, one (1) rectangular mirror, and one (1) sheet of paper.

PROCEDURE

This Performance Assessment is divided into two Trials. Trial 1 involves the concept of point of view and perspective. In this Trial, students will be shown three different mirror images and must arrange three 400 ml beakers containing 300 ml blue, red, and yellow water to produce the mirror image on their own lab bench.

Trial 2 extends the study of mirror images to accentuate the difference between a mirror image and the original image.
