► Investigation Three Summary – Lab Goals
In Investigation Three, you analyzed how changing the amount of one reactant in a chemical reaction affects the amount of time it takes the reaction to be completed. During this Investigation, you:
1. Combined iodine, water, and hydrochloric acid (HCl) in designated amounts and observed the time it took for a completed reaction.
2. Calculated reaction time by converting minutes to seconds.
3. Used the Go Direct spectrophotometer to measure the absorbance of each chemical sample.
► Investigation One Summary – Learning Goals
Through these experiments, students will conclude that:
1. As the amount of a reactant increases, the rate of the reaction increases. As the rate increases, this can be measured as an increase in the rate of disappearance of the reactants and an increase in the rate of production of the products. Therefore, the more reactants added to a reaction, the more products that will be produced and the faster they will be produced.
