Microscopes & Magnification
Students identify and explore important physical principles involved in instruments of magnification. Through direct experimentation, observation, and analysis, students explore the properties of lenses responsible for their magnification properties.
Investigation focus:
- Use a hand lens to observe and investigate the parts of the human eye. Use models to explore the function of the lens of the human eye and its similarities to other lenses.
- Experiment with convex and concave lenses. Compare and contrast the abilities of the naked eye and the assisted eye.
- Learn to properly use a light microscope and explore magnification by observing prepared slides.
- Construct models that illustrate refraction and reflection.
