NOTE: The Investigations below are NOT linked in this sample site. They provide a brief overview of Investigation scientific content.

I

Homo sapiens: Investigation 1 - Human Evolution

In Investigation One, you will study how humans evolved along with other plants and animals on planet Earth. During this Investigation, you will perform experiments aimed at understanding how Homo sapiens drastically differentiated themselves from all previous and subsequent species with the expansion of their cranial volume and highly developed cerebral cortex.

The depth of mental processing (cognition) afforded humans by their large, sophisticated brains set them far apart from any other life form that previously existed or now exists on Earth. You will study this topic in more detail in the next Investigation.

I

Homo sapiens: Investigation 2 - The Human Life Cycle

In Investigation Two, you will study the key biological, cognitive, and behavioral changes that occur during a human life span.

I

Homo sapiens: Investigation 3 - Adolescence!

In Investigation Three, you will continue your study of the human life cycle by focusing specifically on one of its most important stages; adolescence. During this Investigation, you will study:

  • Peer Pressure
  • Executive Functions…frontal lobe maturation
  • Hormonal physiology
  • Emotional/behavioral maturation
I

Homo sapiens: Investigation 4 - Opportunities and Responsibilities

In Investigation Four, you will learn about the many STEM careers available if you study. During this Investigation, you will discuss how science creates wonderful opportunities to make the world better for all human and non-human life. However, with learning and opportunity comes a responsibility to use scientific knowledge and skills to help mankind now and in the future.

Human responsibility for:

  • the planet (pollution, climate, etc.)
  • protecting life
  • hunger and poverty
  • curing sickness
