► Investigation One Summary – Periodic Table of Elements
In Investigation One, you investigated the Periodic Table of the Elements and the properties of elements contained within the table. During this Investigation, you:
1. Used a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast metals and non-metals.
2. Identified metal and non-metal elements on the Periodic Table.
3. Described the physical properties of metals and non-metals.
4. Located elements on the Periodic Table using the following:
-
- atomic number
- periods and groups
- atomic mass
- symbol
► Investigation One Summary – Learning Goals
Through these experiments, you concluded that:
1. Elements are substances that cannot be broken down into smaller components through chemical reactions.
2. The Periodic Table of the Elements is a table that organizes elements according to their physical and chemical properties.
3. Elements with similar physical and chemical properties are grouped together on the Table. For example, elements with metallic properties are grouped on the left side of the table while elements with nonmetallic properties are grouped on the right side of the Table. The columns in the Periodic Table are referred to as groups and the rows are referred to as periods. The elements increase in atomic number from left to right.
