► Investigation Two Summary – Lab Goals
In Investigation Two, you compared specimens that were stained and unstained as well as cross-sectioned and longitudinal-sectioned. During this Investigation, you:
1. Prepared a wet mount slide of your unstained cheek cells and viewed them under the microscope using the 4x, 10x, and 40x objectives.
2. Viewed a prepared slide of stained cheek cells under the microscope using the 4x, 10x, and 40x objectives.
3. Prepared a cross-section of a piece of celery and viewed it under the microscope using the 4x, 10x, and 40x objectives.
4. Prepared a longitudinal section of a piece of celery and viewed it under the microscope using the 4x, 10x, and 40x objectives.
► Investigation Two Summary – Learning Goals
Through these experiments, you concluded that:
1. Staining of specimens may add artificial color to the cells to allow various structures to be more easily viewed. For instance, the staining of the prepared cheek cell slide allowed you to observe the cheek cells more easily. The cells were easier to locate on the slide, and you could observe more detail in the cells on the prepared slide.
2. Observations of the size, shape, and arrangement of cells can be affected by the sectioning of the specimen. Observations of the size, shape, and arrangement of cells were possibly affected by the sectioning of the specimen. In order to conclusively answer this question, you would need to compare each type of tissue sectioned in several different ways.
